Italia- Florence & Pisa

After 2 weeks of teaching in Cairo, it was time for Spring Break! Although it seemed ridiculous that we would have a break already, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to travel for a week! We talked a lot about different places that we wanted to go, but we finally decided on Italy. And let me tell you, we had the most incredible, life-changing experiences there! We traveled all around the country using the amazing train system, so we were able to see Florence, Pisa, Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, Naples, Pompeii, and Rome. We saw spectacular art, experienced ancient history, ate delicious Italian food, and fell completely in love with the country. Since there is A LOT to share about Italy, I am breaking up our trip into three separate blogs. 1- Florence & Pisa. 2- Sorrento, Amalfi Coast, Naples, Pompeii. 3- Rome.

Florence & Pisa

When I think of Italy, I picture cobblestone streets, colorful old buildings, street lights, and an overall quaint atmosphere. And this is exactly what we found in Florence. I think it was my favorite part of Italy that we saw because it really felt like ITALY! It was the perfect place to start our trip.  There were beautiful churches and piazzas around every corner!  We saw some amazing sights in Florence!

Gorgeous town!

The Duomo, one of the most famous places in Florence.

Also in Florence, we went to the Accademia, which is the museum that is famous for having Michelangelo's Statue of David.  We weren't allowed to take pictures of it, but it was an amazing sight to behold!  Michelangelo was a genius!

Florence is just a short train ride from Pisa, so we took a day trip there. Of course we wanted to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but right next to the Tower are several other incredible sights. It’s an area called “The Field of Miracles”, which is the perfect name. We spent the whole day exploring, and were in awe at the beauty that we found.

Of course, we had to take the cliche, touristy pictures with the Leaning Tower!

This place is known as the most beautiful cemetery in the world.  It was gorgeous!  Statues and frescos were everywhere!

After 3 days of exploring Florence and Pisa, we felt like the rest of Italy had a lot of live up to!
